The Ministry of Environmental Protection of Kazakhstan transformed into the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, a decree by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev posted on the Akorda's website, said.
"To reorganize the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan by its conversion into the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan by transferring functions and powers on the formation and implementation of the state policy in the field of water supply to water users or their associations, and its diversion for irrigation schemes from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the decree said.
Also the converted ministry transferred from the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies the functions and powers on the formation of the state policy in the field of sustainable and integrated use of groundwater, except for geological study of groundwater.
The decree was signed and entered into force on October 29.
