By Daniar Mukhtarov - Trend: Kazakhstan has sown the winter crops on an area of 396,000 hectares, or 76 per cent of the intended amount, Kazakh Minister of Agriculture, Asylzhan Mamytbekov said at the next meeting of the government.
The Minister said that winter grain crops have been planted on an area of 396,000 hectares, or 76 per cent of the amount intended to be planted and the 66 per cent of the lands planned to be ploughed were ploughed up.
According to him, more than 2.1 million tons of seeds, or 99 per cent of the need were filled up for the harvest of 2014.
Mamytbekov said, at the moment Kazakhstan has harvested from over 15.6 million hectares, or 99.3 per cent of the grain harvesting area. Some 114,600 hectares of crops, including corn are to be harvested.
The Minister noted that harvesting in Akmola and North Kazakhstan oblasts (provinces) is still ongoing due to frequent rainfalls during harvest period in the northern region, and the underworking and drying of grain are increasing.
"Harvesting took place in difficult climatic conditions. Heavy rainfall that occurs in the second half of July, led to delays in the timing of maturation, the appearance of layering and regrowth, and increase of dockage of grain crops," the minister said.
