Assets of Kazakh second-tier banks increased by 9.2 percent in the first quarter of 2014 and hit 16.878 trillion tenge (182.01 tenge = $1) as of April 1, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported on May 20 with the reference to the Committee for the Supervision of the Financial Market under the Kazakh National Bank.

The loan portfolio of Kazakh second-tier banks increased by 8.7 percent since the beginning of 2014 and reached 63.6 percent in the assets structure or 14.504 trillion tenge.

Loans to legal entities increased by 7.2 percent in the reporting period to 8.012 trillion tenge as of April 1. Share of loans to legal entities in the total portfolio hit 55.2 percent compared to 56 percent at the beginning of the year.

Loans to individuals rose by 6.9 percent in the first three months of this year up to 3.524 trillion tenge. Their share decreased from 24.7 percent to 24.3 percent in this period.

Consumer loans increased 7.5 percent to 2.410 trillion tenge. Their share in the loan portfolio hit 16.6 percent compared to 16.8 percent in the beginning of the year.

The volume of 90-days non-performing loans amounted to 4.770 trillion tenge or 32.9 percent of the loan portfolio compared to 31.2 percent at the beginning of 2014. Provisions for the loan portfolio hit 5.316 trillion tenge or 36.7 percent of the loan portfolio (34.8 percent at the beginning of the year).

Second-tier banks' liabilities increased by 10.6 percent to 14.801 trillion tenge in the first quarter of 2014. Volume of the customer deposits increased by 11.5 percent to 10.977 trillion tenge and amounted to 74.2 percent of total liabilities (73.6 percent at the beginning of the year).

Legal entities' deposits reached 62.3 percent of all the deposits, individual's deposits hit 37.7 percent. These figures were 59.9 percent and 40.1 percent respectively at the beginning of the year.

Kazakhstan's banking sector included 38 second-tier banks as of April 1.
