Citizens of Russia and Kyrgyzstan were arrested in Kazakhstan with a large consignment of drugs found in their car.

The Internal Affairs Department of Kazakhstan's Karaganda Region said its officers detained Russian and Kyrgyz citizens (a group of three people) in a search operation in the city of Karaganda on Sept. 20, 2014.

The Karaganda Region Internal Affairs Department said the inspection in these people's car revealed two bags, which were confiscated, adding that inside the bags there were 40 packages of a powder-like gray and beige coloured substance, which turned out to be heroin.

A criminal case was launched following the incident (illegal manufacturing, processing, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or selling of drugs or psychotropic substances).

The detainees were placed in a temporary detention center.

The investigation is underway to find out the source of the drugs' delivery.

Internal Affairs Department of Kazakhstan also said that following an anti-drug operation, some 130,000 drug doses worth $720,000 were located and confiscated from the black market.
