Strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation with Hungary is important for Kazakhstan, Deputy Prime Minister - Foreign Minister of the country Mukhtar Tleuberdi said, Trend reports referring to Kazakh media.

“In Hungary, we have a reliable friend and partner in the region of Central and Eastern Europe. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Hungarian government for the assistance provided in the repatriation of more than 400 Kazakh citizens to their homeland in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Tleuberdi said after talks with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto.

“I also want to thank the Hungarian Gedeon Richter pharmaceutical company for the delivery of 500 packages of Arduan drug to Kazakhstan in December 2020 as humanitarian aid in the fight against COVID-19," added the deputy PM.

He also noted the importance of further strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation, primarily by deepening economic interaction and building up bilateral trade.

"Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the fields of energy, water management, education, as well as the effective use of the transit and transport potential of the Visegrad Group (Central-Eastern Europe) and Central Asia,” Tleuberdi stressed. “We note with great pleasure the opening of the Office of the Export-Import Bank of Hungary in Nur-Sultan at the site of the Astana International Financial Center. This will expand the capabilities of Hungarian companies in the Central Asian region.”

Besides, according to him, an important element of bilateral cooperation is the education sector.

“We are grateful to Hungary for the annual allocation of 250 grants for Kazakh citizens. At present, more than 1,000 of our students study in Hungary. The number of students interested in studying Hungarian language is growing,” he further said.

“We also welcome Hungarian students studying Kazakh language at the local universities. We are confident that in the future these young people will become a ‘lively bridge’ connecting our countries," Tleuberdi said.
