Kazakh Senate adopts document on economic relations with Kyrgyzstan, within EAEU

The Senate adopted the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Ratification of the Protocol on Changes to the Protocol on Terms and Transitional Provisions on the Application of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union dated May 29, 2014 by the Kyrgyz Republic, certain international treaties included in the law of the Eurasian Economic Union and acts of the Eurasian Economic Union authorities in connection with the accession of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union dated May 29, 2014, Trend reports with reference to Kazinform news agency.

"The Protocol on Terms and Transitional Provisions on the Application of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union by the Kyrgyz Republic gave the Kyrgyz Republic the opportunity to apply low import customs duties for some goods envisaged upon the Common Customs Tariff of the Eurasian Economic Union till January 1, 2020," Minister of Trade and Integration Bakhyt Sultanov said.

The list of the withdrawn goods of the Kyrgyz Republic consisted of 222 commodity items, namely, food products, medicines, cars, some non-ferrous metal products and equipment.

"Taking into account the unstable economic and social situation in the country, the president of the Kyrgyz Republic made a request to extend the period for applying low duties on the withdrawn goods during the Summit of the Heads of State of the Eurasian Economic Union in December 2019," the minister said.

The minister reminded that following the discussion, the presidents, as well as Honorary Chairman of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed goodwill by agreeing to extend the transition period by one year.

"The Kyrgyz Republic switched to the rates of the Common Customs Tariff of the Eurasian Economic Union for all goods since January 1, 2021," the minister said.
