The import of masks creates competition in the domestic market and allows keeping prices down, Nurlybek Asylbek, department head at the Medical and Pharmaceutical Control Committee under the Health Ministry of Kazakhstan in Nur-Sultan, said.
Asylbek made the remark during a briefing at the Central Communications Service, answering to question of journalists about reason of buying medical masks in foreign markets, Trend reports.
“In the context of the coronavirus pandemic, the production of masks and medical protective equipment has been established. At the early stage of the coronavirus only 7 factories produced the masks, whilst today this figure is growing every day. Compared to last year, the growth was 12 percent,” he said.
“With regard to imports, imported medical products create competition in the market and lower prices. In addition, the issue of exporting products of domestic manufacturers abroad is currently being considered. A corresponding order has been drawn up together with the authorized state bodies,” the committee’s representative noted.
Last year, due to a shortage of masks and PPEs, it was forbidden to export these medical products, reminded Asylbek.
