Kazakhstan has resumed grain and flour exports by railway to Afghanistan, Trend reports referring to the press service of the Kazakh Agricultural Ministry.

The ministry published official information regarding the current situation in the sale of locally produced grain and flour to Afghanistan.

“Kazakhstan sends every year seven-eight million tons of grain and flour in grain equivalent to different countries of the world. At the same time, Afghanistan is not the main, but one of the main and traditional sales markets for Kazakh wheat and flour. In 2020, a little more than two million tons of grain and flour in grain equivalent produced in Kazakhstan were shipped to Afghanistan,” the ministry said.

According to QazTrade, out of 300 flour exporters functioning in Kazakhstan, 183 enterprises cooperate both with the Afghan and other markets, and 49 more carry out shipments only to Afghanistan. The exporters have traditional transport corridors and long-used business contacts, which continue to function under the new government [in the country].

The northern Afghan provinces - Balkh, Baghlan, Takhar and Kunduz, as well as the capital region and the city of Kabul use Kazakh agricultural products.

“In September and early October, 60,200 tons of flour and 15,600 tons of grain were shipped from Kazakhstan to Afghanistan. Subsequently, the supply volumes will be increased,” added the ministry.
