Kazakh Senate adopts law on common EAEU electricity market

MPs of Kazakhstan Parliament’s Senate [upper house] adopted the law "On ratification of protocol on amendments to Treaty on Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) dated May 29, 2014, regarding formation of common EAEU electricity market", Trend reports via the parliament.

“The common electricity market of the Eurasian Economic Union is planned to be formed by integrating the national electricity markets of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. To implement this task, by the decisions of the Supreme Economic Council on May 8, 2015, the concept for the formation of a common electric power market of the union was approved,” Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Zhandos Nurmaganbetov said at the plenary session of the Senate.

According to Nurmaganbetov, the above concept defines the goals and objectives of the EAEU's common electricity market, its target model, management structures, mechanisms for interaction between market entities, forms and methods of regulation, and also contains the stages of market formation.
