BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 23. Measures are being implemented at the Atyrau Oil Refinery to reduce pollutant emissions in Kazakhstan, Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Serikkali Brekeshev said at an expanded government meeting, Trend reports.
According to Brekeshev, within the task to improve the quality of atmospheric air, the emissions are planned to be reduced at the 16 largest industrial enterprises by 20 percent over five years in 10 large cities of the country.
The Steel Department of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC reconstructed the dust-cleaning equipment of the sinter bunkers, and repaired the electric filters of the boiler units, enabling to reduce of emissions by 1,100 tons, the minister noted.
Besides, according to him, work has begun on the reconstruction of the gas exhaust tract of the clinkering zone of agglomeration machines with the installation of electric filters and the reconstruction of the dust-cleaning equipment of the limestone crushing building.
The work will be completed this year. In general, by 2025, emissions are projected to decrease by up to 30 percent at ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC, Brekeshev further said.
A transition to gas is planned at Almaty CHP-2 (Сombined Heat and Power Plant), which will result in an 80 percent reduction in pollutant emissions by 2025. At the Atyrau Oil Refinery, work is underway on fine cleaning of flue gases from catalytic cracking and amine treatment of fuel gas at units, which will reduce pollutant emissions by 3.6 percent. In general, by 2030 a decrease of 9.1 percent is planned, added the minister.
