BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 26. Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas JSC has acquired I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate) in order to reduce indirect greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Trend reports, citing the company.
The certificates acquired are issued for a solar power plant in one of the regions of Kazakhstan. The company was first to buy such certificates in the country.
According to KazMunayGas, this has led to extinguishing GHG emissions by 8.5 million kWh, which corresponds to the expected electricity consumption by the central office of KazMunayGas in 2022.
The International Renewable Energy Certification Platform has launched its work in Kazakhstan this year. At the same time, the “ECOJER” Association, which keeps records of registrants in I-REC, verifies documents confirming the origin of electricity from renewable energy sources, and issues certificates upon application of registrants, has been chosen as the issuer of the I-REC certificates.
