BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 15. Some 40,006 people traveled to Kazakhstan from Azerbaijan in 2022, which is a 2.5-fold increase compared to 15,548 in 2021, Trend reports, citing the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan.

Latest data indicates that the number of visitors from Azerbaijan arriving to Kazakhstan exceeded the level recorded before the outbreak of COVID-19. Prior to the global pandemic, 35,223 people traveled to Kazakhstan in 2019.

Kazakhstan became the most attractive destination among the Central Asian states for Azerbaijani tourists in 2022. Turkmenistan was the second most popular travel destination, with 17,684 people traveling there, while Uzbekistan closed the top three with 6,430 visitors.

The number of visitors to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan amounted to 754 and 42 respectively.

The State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan is a governmental body established to improve public administration in the field of culture and tourism. Previously, the Agency revealed that in 2022, a total of 1,602,600 foreign citizens visited Azerbaijan, which is more than double the figure for 2021 (790,062).
