BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 8. The trade turnover between Kazakhstan's Atyrau region and China has reached $455.7 million in the first quarter of this year, Acting Head of the Department of Industrial and Innovative Development of Atyrau region Karylgash Bekbaeva said, Trend reports via the Kazakh media.
According to her, this figure is 15 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.
Out of total trade turnover, Kazakh exports accounted for $434.9 million (an increase of 13 percent), while imports - $20.8 million, which is 55 percent more year-over-year.
"Among the products exported to China from the Atyrau region are oil, gas, petroleum coke and bitumen. The imported goods include pipes, clothing, synthetic fiber, carpets, and other textile materials," she said.
Bekbaeva also added that as of today there are 43 enterprises with China capital operating in Kazakhstan.
Meanwhile, in addition to the strong trade ties between the Atyrau region and China, one of the largest projects in Kazakhstan with the participation of Chinese capital - Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries Inc. LLP - is also located in this region. The enterprise is manufacturing polyethylene, a key material used in a wide range of industries.
