BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 19. Cooperation in the transit and transport sphere is a priority area for Lithuania and Kazakhstan, Trend reports via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

According to the ministry, this was stated at the meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Roman Vassilenko and Vice Foreign Minister of Lithuania Mantas Adomėnas during the Kazakh-Lithuanian political consultations.

The main focus of the meeting was the issue of linking the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) with railway intermodal terminals in Kaunas and Vilnius, as well as with the Port of Klaipėda. It was noted that this measure will allow Kazakh and other transit cargo to be delivered to the markets of the Baltic countries, Scandinavia and Western Europe.

As the Chairman of the International Transport Forum since May this year, Lithuania intends to actively promote such cooperation. In this regard, Vasilenko and Adomėnas also stressed the importance of developing cooperation between the Astana-based TITR Association and the Lithuanian Railway.

During the Kazakh-Lithuanian political consultations, the sides also discussed a wide range of issues related to the development of bilateral cooperation and the current international agenda in the world.
