BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 16. Kazakhstan is going to open the country's only textile geosynthetics production facility in the Atyrau region this year, Serik Shapkenov, akim (governor) of the Atyrau region, said during the briefing at the Central Communications Service, Trend reports.

According to him, the project cost is 2 billion Kazakh tenge ($4.4 million). The produced material will be used for the construction of roads, hydraulic engineering, construction of pipelines and warehouses, and in other industries.

Previously, Kazakhstan relied on imports to meet its needs. However, with the establishment of this facility in Atyrau, the country will now have a local source of supply. This not only ensures self-sufficiency in meeting domestic demand but also opens doors for potential export opportunities.

Among the unique projects underway in the region is the construction of an extruded geosynthetics plant, which is estimated to cost 3 billion Kazakh tenge ($6.6 million). This facility is projected to produce approximately 10 million square meters of geogrids, geomembranes, and composite geomaterials annually. These materials play a vital role in the construction of transportation and railway storage facilities, industrial waste repositories, and coastal reinforcement works.

Furthermore, the Atyrau region has plans for the construction of a nonwoven geotextile factory, with a project cost of 1.3 billion Kazakh tenge ($2.8 billion). This production site will focus on manufacturing export-oriented nonwoven geotextile fabric, which finds extensive use in road construction.
