Kazakhstan Railways transports over 103 mln tons of cargo in 5M2023

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 20. Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ - Kazakhstan Railways) transported a total of 103.6 million tons of cargo from January through May 2023, Trend reports.

According to the KTZ, the export of goods by rail increased by 2.2 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 37 million tons. Within the country, the loading volume reached 66.5 million tons.

Coal transportation accounted for 44.3 million tons, including 31.1 million tons of solid fuel transported domestically. Grain transportation witnessed a significant growth of 24.5 percent compared to the previous year, reaching over 4.9 million tons. Within the country, grain loading increased by 12.7 percent to 937,000 tons, while exports grew by 27.7 percent to 3.9 million tons.

Furthermore, the loading volume of milled products increased by 12.8 percent to 1.3 million tons, including a 16.2 percent growth within the country, amounting to 345,000 tons. Exports also rose by 11.6 percent to 978,000 tons.

In addition, the five-month period of 2023 saw an increase in the loading of oil cargoes by 4.4 percent to 7.8 million tons, chemical fertilizers by 8.5 percent to 1.8 million tons, and construction cargoes by 13 percent to 5.8 million tons.

The operational freight turnover for the first five months of 2023 amounted to 112.5 billion net ton-kilometers, showing a 9.6 percent increase compared to the previous year.
