ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 1. The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Georgia reached $190 million from January through June 2023, which is up by almost 30 percent compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.
According to Kazakhstan's Prime Minister's Office, this was discussed during a meeting between Kazakhstan's PM Alikhan Smailov and his Georgian counterpart Irakli Garibashvili.
At the meeting, it was noted that the relevant Intergovernmental Commission is working to further increase the volume of trade.
Highlighting Georgia as Kazakhstan's valuable partner in South Caucasus, Smailov said that within the framework of bilateral relations, cooperation in the transit and transport sphere plays an increasingly important role.
Notably, the two countries are rapidly solidifying their alliance in developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR or Middle Corridor). Within just six months of the current year, freight transportation through the Middle Corridor has surged by an impressive 77 percent, with a total of 1.3 million tons of cargo handled.
Smailov emphasized that the mutually beneficial intergovernmental agreements have injected fresh momentum into the continuous growth of this corridor. Specific areas of focus include the digitalization of processes, ensuring stable freight tariffs, and the establishment of a unified logistics operator along the route.
On his part, Garibashvili reaffirmed Georgia's commitment to further fortifying the effective cooperation with Kazakhstan across the entire spectrum of bilateral collaboration.
