ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 21. A memorandum was signed in Kazakhstan's Zhezkazgan on August 16 on the construction of a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) with a capacity of about 100 MW at the Zhezkazgan CHP station. The event was accompanied by signing of relevant documents in the presence of LLP "Kazakhmys Energy" CEO Temirlan Utegenov and akim of Ulytau region Berik Abdygaliuly, Trend reports.
In addition, supplementary agreements on construction of CCGT and development of project documentation were signed between Temirlan Utegenov and representative of Sinohydro Company in Kazakhstan Li Teng, as well as CEO of Sepco Corporation for South-East and Central Asia Wang Guanzhong.
The key partner at this important stage will be the Chinese company "Sinohydro Corporation Limited", a member of the international concern Power China. The project realization will cover the period from 2023 through 2026.
The undeniable advantage of this initiative will be its contribution to the development of the entire region. This project contributes to the creation of new jobs both in the process of implementation and after the launch of CCGT facilities.
The operation of the plant, starting from the moment of its commissioning, will cover the power deficit of the Zhezkazgan energy system at the level of 104 MW, which will add additional capacity for operational maneuvers. The project will also provide a stimulus for additional revenues to the regional budget and expand opportunities to attract international investors.
In addition, the launch of the new facility will play a positive role in reducing the environmental impact of generating additional capacity, as natural gas will be used in the combustion process.
The total cost of this large-scale project is estimated at approximately 80 billion tenge ($176 million).
