ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 27. Kazakhtelecom (largest telecommunications company in Kazakhstan) has connected over 50 residential complexes in capital of Kazakhstan, Astana to the high-tech internet since the beginning of the year, Trend reports.
As the company noted, thanks to the latest GPON technology, more than 20,500 families received a high-quality internet connection that can maintain its speed even during periods of particularly congested network.
Today, connecting to the internet using GPON technology is one of the most popular services of the company. The main advantages of this type of communication include high data transfer speed and resistance to external factors, which is the main aspect when choosing a telecom operator by a subscriber.
As one of the commercial directors at Kazakhtelecom Aliya Eskendirova said, the company strives to reduce customer service time as much as possible.
"Of course, there are exceptions, for example, the absence of a connection point to the backbone network. As a rule, over time, this factor also occurs less frequently, because every year we increase our capabilities. Today, the length of Kazakhtelecom's backbone networks reaches almost 90,000 km, which is 2.2 times the circumference of the Earth," she added.
Optical fiber networks operate on different passive optical network (PON) standards. A PON is a network system specific to fiber technology that delivers broadband network access to your home or business. One of many PON standards is GPON.
GPON stands for Gigabit Ethernet passive optical network (PON). GPON uses Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) for voice, Ethernet for data, and proprietary encapsulation for voice. This means that it uses fixed-sized cells instead of variably sized packets of data. It offers faster Gbps than EPON (Ethernet passive optical network) on downstream and upstream bandwidths.
A GPON system consists of an optical line terminal (OLT) that connects several optical network terminals (ONTs/ONUs) together using a passive optical distribution network.
