ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 29. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev invited German companies to take part in the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, Middle Corridor), Trend reports.
Tokayev made the remark during a meeting of the heads of state of Central Asia with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“Today, the Central Asian region is becoming a key link in global transportation, playing an important role as a continental bridge in the North-South and East-West directions. The development of the Trans-Caspian route and its connection with the Global Gateway strategy is of particular importance. In the medium term, the volume of cargo traffic along this corridor can be increased fivefold. To this end, systematic work is being carried out," Tokayev said.
"We invite German partners to take an active part in the development of the Trans-Caspian route and the ports of the Caspian Sea, as well as the joint production of transport vessels and the creation of logistics centers,” he said.
The Middle Corridor is a transportation and trade route that connects Asia and Europe, passing through several countries in the region. It is an alternative route to the traditional Northern Corridor and Southern Corridor.
The route starts in China and crosses Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It then passes through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye before reaching Europe. The Middle Corridor offers a land route that connects the eastern parts of Asia, including China, with Europe, bypassing the longer maritime routes.
