ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 6. A large mining and metallurgical plant will be built in the Jambyl region of Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
The details of its construction were discussed by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov and representative of the Monterra Group Johann Stoll (the Chairman of the Board of MONTERRA QASAQSTAN)
The project is planned to be implemented in stages in three phases during 2026-2029. After reaching maximum capacity, the enterprise will be able to mine and process about 5 million tons of gold ore per year.
It is expected that the project will attract up to 832 billion tenge (about $1.74 billion) of foreign direct investment. As a result, about 2,000 new jobs will be created.
The plant will use advanced European processing technologies, which will make it one of the most high-tech in the republic. In general, the mining and metallurgical plant will have a multiplier effect on the development of many sectors of the economy of Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, issues of developing technical documentation for the project, building infrastructure, training young specialists from the local population with subsequent employment, as well as carrying out measures to preserve the natural environment were discussed.
The number of registered legal entities in Jambyl region as of September 1, 2023, amounted to 15,239 units and increased by 2.1 percent compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14,860 units with less than 100 employees.
The number of active legal entities was 12,165 units, of which 11,786 units were small enterprises.
The number of registered small and medium-sized enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 12,091 units and increased by 3.4 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
