ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 20. Kayrat Boranbayev has transferred the Karazhanbas Severny oil and gas field to the ownership of Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
As the Financial Monitoring Agency said, the production parameters of the field are 143 wells with a reserve of 2.6 million tons of oil and 13.2 million cubic meters of gas, with an estimated cost of 35.4 billion tenge (about $73.8 million).
The transfer is taking place in connection with measures to return Boranbayev’s assets to the state as part of his voluntary cooperation with the investigation.
Boranbayev has also transferred the gas distribution company Asia Gas Chundzha, which is engaged in the transportation and sale of commercial gas. The market value of the company is about 14 billion tenge (about $29.2 million).
In addition, the plant for the production and repair of oil and gas equipment, Service Center KazTurboRemont LLP, with an estimated cost of more than 9 billion tenge (about $18.7 million), becomes the property of the state. The number of employees of the enterprise is 740.
All these objects will be transferred to the benefit of the state.
As the agency noted, work continues to search for and return assets, including those from abroad.
Kayrat Boranbayev was among the top 50 richest and most influential businessmen in the country.
In mid-March 2022, a businessman was arrested for large-scale theft of funds from the national company Qazaq Gaz (formerly KazTransGas) during gas supplies.
A year later, the Astana court sentenced Boranbayev and two other defendants in the case to 8 years in prison each, to be served in a medium-security colony.
In July, the verdict was overturned by the judicial board for criminal cases in Astana.
In September, the Financial Monitoring Agency reported that Boranbayev voluntarily returned assets worth over 90 billion tenge ($195.4 million) to the state.
