ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 26. The total sown area in the Jambyl region of Kazakhstan amounted to 762,500 hectares in 2023 and increased by 6,500 hectares compared to 2022 (756,000 hectares), Trend reports.
This was stated during a meeting between Vice Minister of Agriculture Abulkhair Tamabek and agricultural producers in the region.
In the region, cereals and leguminous crops were sown - 407,300 hectares, oilseeds - 65,600 hectares, sugar beets - 10,900 hectares, potatoes - 11,400 hectares, vegetable crops - 43,100 hectares, horticultural crops - 16,700 hectares and fodder crops - 214,500 hectares.
As of October 23, 393,000 hectares of grain (99 percent) were harvested in the Jambyl region and 514,900 tons were threshed with an average yield of 13.1 c/ha. Oilseeds - harvested 63,500 hectares (97 percent) with an average yield of 6.2 c/ha.
Also, 234,200 tons of potatoes, 142,600 tons of vegetable crops, and 1.11 million tons of melons were collected.
The volume of gross agricultural output in Kazakhstan increased by 3.2 percent in the first half of 2023 and amounted to 2.1 trillion tenge (about $4.4 billion)
The growth was achieved mainly due to a 3.3 percent increase in livestock production volumes. Meat production increased by 4.5 percent (1 million tons in live weight) and milk by 2.9 percent (3.2 million tons).
In 2022, the volume of gross agricultural production increased by 9.1 percent and amounted to 9.3 trillion tenge (about $19.5 billion). This happened due to an increase in crop production by 15 percent. Favorable weather conditions made it possible to carry out the harvesting campaign without downtime and harvest one of the best grain harvests in the last 10 years, which reached 22.8 million tons.
