Kazakhstan boosts volume of cargo transportation by rail with Russia

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 9. The volume of cargo transportation by rail between Kazakhstan and Russia amounted to 68.7 million tons from January through September 2023, Trend reports.

As the Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, national company) said, this figure is 5 percent higher than the same period in 2022.

Kazakhstan's exports of iron ore to Russia increased by 47 percent, ferrous metals - by 15 percent. In addition, exports through the Russian territory also increased - chemicals by 32 percent, grain by 57 percent, flour by 81 percent, chemical and mineral fertilizers by 2.3 times, asbestos by 2 times.

Container transportation on the Russia-China-Russia route has doubled. Along the Eastern route of the North-South transport corridor, cargo transportation increased 1.5 times.

This corridor provides the shortest distances for transporting goods between the EAEU countries and South Asia, East Africa and the Middle East and has the potential to provide export and transit transportation.

Railway workers of the two countries are taking synchronous measures to modernize infrastructure, improve technological processes, create favorable conditions for shippers, etc.

Loading on the Kazakhstan Railways network amounted to 213.8 million tons from January through October 2023, which is 2.1 tons higher than in the same period last year. Over 138 million tons were transported by rail throughout the republic. Exports increased by 7.1 percent to 75.7 million tons.

In addition, in October this figure was 23 million tons, which is 6 percent higher than the same period last year.
