Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan intend to increase cargo transportation volumes by rail

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 22. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan intend to increase the volume of cargo transportation by rail, Trend reports.

This was revealed at a meeting in Tashkent between officials of Kazakhstan Railways JSC (KTZ, the national firm) and Uzbekistan Railways JSC.

It was observed that the railway administrations of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are working well.

As a result of this work, movement of commodities between countries saw rapid development, with the overall volume of transportation between the two countries increasing by 21 percent over the first ten months of 2023, including a 37 percent rise in exports from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan.

The parties emphasized the need of enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation and providing advantageous conditions for cargo transportation, including the implementation of a competitive tariff policy and the digitization of the transportation process.

The achievement of these objectives will contribute to an increase in transportation volumes.

Furthermore, from January to October 2023, Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, national enterprise) loaded 213.8 million tons, 2.1 tons more than the previous year.

Rail delivered about 138 million tons throughout the republic. Exports grew 7.1 percent to 75.7 million tons.

Over 87.3 million tons of coal were loaded throughout the reporting period. 61.2 million tons, including within the republic.
