ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 29. Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan will work together on the development of the transport corridor China – Kazakhstan – Turkmenistan – Iran, Trend reports.

An agreement on this was reached during the first meeting of the Kazakh-Turkmen joint working group on the development of transport, transit and logistics, in Ashgabat.

During the meeting, issues of cooperation in the field of transport, transit and logistics in general were discussed.

The working group positively assessed the joint work carried out on the formation of a flexible competitive tariff policy in the field of railway communication and agreed to continue work in this direction in the future.

Following the meeting, a protocol and memorandum on transport connectivity were signed between the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan and the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.

The memorandum provides for the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the field of railway and maritime transport. In particular, memorandum outlines intentions to increase transportation volumes across the territories of the two countries.

At the end of 2022, the level of trade turnover amounted to $438.2 million (exports - $340.2 million, imports - $98 million), almost doubling compared to 2021.

From January through March 2023, the volume of mutual trade amounted to $110.5 million (exports - $90.6 million, imports - $19.9 million), increasing by 6 percent compared to the same period 2022.

The main export items of Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan: grain, flour, ferrous metals; chemical and mineral fertilizers, non-metallic ores. Import to Kazakhstan: citrus fruits, tomatoes, mineral, chemical and textile products.
