ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 1. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have agreed to quickly work out the issue of opening an additional checkpoint for freight vehicles on the border, Trend reports.
A corresponding agreement was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov and Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Head of the Administration of the President of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov.
Alikhan Smailov noted the progressive development of trade and economic interaction between the countries.
From January through November 2023, mutual trade grew by 12 percent and reached $1.3 billion. At the same time, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan continue to work together to bring the volume of trade turnover to $2 billion.
"This is facilitated by the effective activities of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, such as the Intergovernmental Council and the Forum for Interregional Cooperation. The government of Kazakhstan is ready to further support the Kazakh-Kyrgyz strategic partnership in all areas," Smailov said.
In turn, Akylbek Japarov noted the interest of the Kyrgyz side in further deepening allied relations with Kazakhstan, based on mutual trust and understanding.
In addition, the parties agreed to strengthen interaction in the water and energy sector.
