ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 4. More than 80 percent of mutual settlements in trade turnover between Russia and Kazakhstan occur in national currencies, said Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin, Trend reports.

He made the remark during a meeting with the Chairman of the Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Koshanov.

"Kazakhstan is one of the five countries that have the largest trade turnover with Russia. Volumes are growing year after year. And this happens despite the external pressure and sanctions that are imposed on our country. At the same time, the qualitative side is increasing: more than 80 percent of mutual settlements in trade turnover occur in national currencies; we have moved away from mutual settlements in dollars and euros," he said.

He noted that the economies of Russia and Kazakhstan are interdependent: the growth of the Russian economy over the past year amounted to 3.6 percent, and the Kazakh economy amounted to 5.1 percent.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan’s trade turnover with Russia in 2023 amounted to $25.9 billion.

Exports to Russia are $9.7 billion, and imports from Russia are $16.2 billion.
