ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 13. Kazakhstan plans to build 37 new plants for processing municipal solid waste and modernize 8 existing plants, said Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Yerlan Nysanbayev during a government meeting, Trend reports.
"In terms of processing municipal solid waste, it is planned to build 37 new and modernize 8 existing plants with a total capacity of more than 1.2 million tons per year. This will increase the processing volume to 1.4 million tons per year," he said.
According to him, the government has approved a mechanism for preferential financing of projects in the field of waste management. This applies to the acquisition of garbage trucks, the launch of sorting lines, and processing facilities.
The minister noted that to date, 94 projects worth more than 232 billion tenge (about $516.5 million) have been selected.
"Implementation of these projects will allow us to launch the production of paving stones, manholes, trash cans, glass containers, stretch film, and other consumer goods," the minister said.
In addition, Nysanbayev pointed out that 21 projects have also been worked out with the regions for the construction and modernization of sorting lines with a capacity of more than 3 million tons per year.
"The implementation of the projects will allow increasing the capacity of sorting lines from the current 1.7 to 4.7 million tons, as well as covering cities and large settlements in all regions of the country," he noted.
