ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 26. The head of Kazakhstan's Samruk-Kazyna JSC (Sovereign Wealth Fund), Nurlan Zhakupov, has met with the management of the Italian company Eni, where the parties discussed priority areas of cooperation and current projects, Trend reports.
During the meeting, an acquaintance with the new head of Eni in Kazakhstan, Seger Hoytink, also took place.
Eni is the largest Italian oil and gas company, represented in more than 80 countries. Eni has been operating in Kazakhstan since 1992.
Over these years, the company’s total investments in Kazakhstan's economy amounted to more than $16 billion. Kazakhstan is one of the top five countries in terms of oil and gas production in Eni’s portfolio.
Meanwhile, in January 2024, during the visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Italy, two more documents were signed with Eni:
- Samruk-Kazyna signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Italian Eni S.p.A.
- Joint final investment decision between the fund's portfolio company KazMunayGas JSC and Eni on the construction of a hybrid power plant.
Furthermore, the Italian Eni's production of liquids in Kazakhstan amounted to 112 kbbl/d (kilobarrels per day) from January through September 2023. In the same period in 2022, this figure was 80 kbbl/d.
In addition, liquid production in Kazakhstan in the third quarter amounted to 105 kbbl/d, which is almost twice as high as the same period in 2022 (53 kbbl/d).
