ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 27. Construction of a thermal power plant (TPP) by the Russian company Inter RAO-Export in Kazakhstan's Kokshetau may begin in 2024, said Kazakh Energy Minister Almassadam Satkaliev during a briefing, Trend reports.

"For Kokshetau, adjustments are already being made to the feasibility study. We are talking about quite a lot of progress with the possibility of starting construction this year," the minister said.

According to him, for the other two projects (the construction of TPP in Semey and Ust-Kamenogorsk), a feasibility study is being completed, based on the results of which technical solutions will be approved, equipment will be ordered at the relevant factories, and the final implementation schedule will be approved.

Meanwhile, on December 26, 2023, Samruk-Kazyna JSC and Inter RAO-Export signed a cooperation agreement on projects for the construction of three thermal power plants in the cities of Kokshetau, Semey, and Ust-Kamenogorsk.

It is proposed to construct a 240-MW thermal power plant in Kokshetau by 2027. It is also proposed to construct a 360-MW thermal power plant near Semey. The development of a thermal power plant in Ust-Kamenogorsk is scheduled until 2035; however, its capacity is uncertain.
