ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 19. Kazakhstan, Iran, Turkmenistan, and Russia have signed a roadmap on synchronous development of the potential of the eastern route of the international transport corridor “North-South” for 2024–2025, Trend reports.
The relevant document was signed on the margins of the first transport trade and export forum, "North-South," which was held in Aktau.
The implementation of this document by 2027 will increase the capacity of the corridor to 15 million tons per year, and by 2030, it will be up to 20 million tons.
“Kazakhstan aims to continue its active participation in the development of the eastern branch of the North-South ITC, which has the highest potential for growth of cargo flows until 2030 and appears to be the safest for the shortest transit to the Indian Ocean. Therefore, it is necessary to start practical implementation of the road map signed today on synchronous development of the potential of the eastern route of ITC "North-South," passing through the territories of Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Iran," stated the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan during his speech at the event.
To note, the forum is attended by over 440 participants from 12 countries, representatives of the Economic Cooperation Organization, and the Eurasian Economic Commission.
The forum serves as a platform for discussion of topical issues related to the development of railroads, highways, and ports with the participation of major players in the North-South transport corridor.
