ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 6. Kazakhstan needs a consortium of leading global companies to build its nuclear power plant, said President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Trend reports.
In response to a media question about who would take on the construction if the referendum results support the project, Tokayev said, “It’s not a straightforward issue. The government will need to conduct a thorough analysis and enter into negotiations. Personally, I believe an international consortium made up of global companies with cutting-edge technologies should be involved. From there, we’ll see how things unfold.”
Voting in Kazakhstan’s nuclear power plant referendum began on October 6.
In 2023, the Kazakh Ministry of Energy announced four major contenders for the project: China’s CNNC, South Korea’s KHNP, France’s EDF, and Russia’s Rosatom.
