The NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer hopes that Russia will help convince the President of Kyrgyzstan of not liquidating the America's Manas airbase, he said in his exclusive interview of Echo of Moscow. The NATO Secretary General said that during the talks in Munich, agreements were reached on many questions, including on Afghanistan and combating terrorism and narcotics. "If NATO and Russia co-operate on this question, I hope that the decision of Kyrgyzstan government will not be final," said de Hoop Scheffer.

The NATO Secretary General also stated that the establishment of Russian military bases in South Ossetia and Abkhazia is explicit conflict with the regulations of the OSCE.

The 45th Munich Security Conference completes.

Today a meeting must take place between the heads of the Russian and American delegations - Vice Prime Minister of Russia Sergey Ivanov and his American counterpart Joe Biden. As expected, the discussions will deal with closing of the military airbase of the USA in Kyrgyzstan, and also establishment of missile defence systems in East Europe.

Sergey Ivanov formerly said that Russia can give up establishment of Iskander complexes in Kaliningrad region, but instead Moscow proposes the USA not to place radar and interceptor missile in the Czech Republic and Poland. In his turn, Joe Biden said that Washington did not intend to reject its plans, but at the same time, it will consult with Russia and its NATO allies.
