Kyrgyz NGOs call interior minister to drop his office
Kyrgyz non-governmental organizations call the Minister of Interior Affairs Moldomusa Kongantiev to resign his post, the NGO representatives informed the news agency "24.kg".
"Police is often associated as one of the main threats for people's security and personal inviolability. Police is known for non-compliance of laws, bribery, power abuse and tortures practices. Women in Kyrgyzstan are alarmingly often abused by police. The minister should know about numerous rapes and harassments of women by policemen, and we are ready to inform him about that," the civilian sector representatives said.
NGO leaders believe that Kongantiev's voluntarily resignation will contribute to restoration of people's trust to law-enforcement agencies and show example of responsibility, honor and professionalism.
The meeting of the NGO leaders and the Kyrgyz Interior Minister is scheduled for March 23, 2009.
