The United People's Movement (UPM), the main opposition coalition in Kyrgyzstan, said Friday it decided to expel Temir Sariyev, leader of the opposition party Ak-Shumkar, from the coalition, Xinhua reported.
The decision was made as a direct response to Ak Shumkar's separate presidential nomination of Sariyev, according to the leaders of the opposition coalition.
Ak Shumkar on Monday nominated Sariyev as a candidate for presidency.
Sariyev's nomination was put forward without the approval of the UPM, said leaders of the coalition, that intends to field a single candidate in the July 23 presidential election.
Formed in December 2008, the UPM was an umbrella group representing various factions in opposition to Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev. It includes parties such as Ata Meken, Ak Shumkar, Asaba and the Social Democrats.
