The presence of the U.S. Manas Transit Transport Center in Kyrgyzstan is an important component in the security of the entire Central Asian region, Kyrgyz Ambassador to the United States Mukhtar Djumaliyev said this week.
"The presence of the transit center is an important component in the security of the entire region," Djumaliyev said in an interview with Voice of America.
According to the official, continuing the center's activity in Kyrgyzstan is important and a question that is frequently asked and meets the interests of the global community.
"As ambassador, I would like to say that, of course, we would like the center to continue its operation," he said.
However, he added, Kyrgyzstan is a parliamentary republic today, so the "last word lies with the parliament and the government that will soon be formed."
"We hope that the new government will approach the question of Manas' fate with understanding," he said. "I sincerely believe that the Kyrgyz people and neighboring countries realize that this center is an important factor of stability in the region."
