Acting PM leads Kyrgyzstan presidential poll as most ballots counted - CEC

Acting Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambaev is leading the country's presidential elections with 64.7% of the vote (562,028 people), after 50.73% of ballots were counted, according to Central Election Committee website.

"Ata-Zhurt" party leader Kamchibek Tashiev is second with 14.46% of the vote, followed by the former Kyrgyz Secretary of State, the leader of the "United Kyrgyzstan" party Adakhan Madumarov, who garnered 14.46%, RIA Novosti reported.

The other candidates garnered less than one percent. 0.44% of the voters cast their ballots against all candidates. Total of 16 candidates participated in the election.

According to the website of the Kyrgyzstan CEC, voter turnout in presidential elections has exceeded 60%.

The polling stations opened at 8:00 am and closed at 7:00 pm. According to the new Constitution the President of Kyrgyzstan is elected for six years and only one presidential term.

2289 polling stations were set up in the country as well as 29 polling stations in 23 countries worldwide.

Over 3 million voters are registered in the country to date.

792 international observers from 56 countries are monitoring the elections.
