President: Kyrgyzstan supports peaceful resolution of Syrian conflict

The deteriorating situation in the Middle East and North Africa and in particular Syria is Kyrgyzstan's concern, KyrTAG reported with the reference to Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev.

"The situation in our region as well as in the world as a whole remains difficult. The development of the situation in the Middle East and North Africa and in particular in Syria causes concern," Atambayev said at an enlarged meeting of the Council of Heads of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's (SCO) member states on Friday.

According to Atambayev, Kyrgyzstan is concerned about the large number of victims, the humanitarian disaster and deterioration of the political situation in Syria.

"We call for a peaceful settlement of the Syrian conflict through negotiation and dialogue, " Atambayev stated.

The 13th summit of SCO is taking place in Bishkek. The event is attended by Chinese head Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Uzbek President Islam Karimov, as well as the heads of observer countries including Afghanistan, Iran, Mongolia and Foreign Minister of India and Pakistan's Prime Minister's advisor on Foreign Policy.
