BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 7. Kyrgyzstan's electric power system urgently requires investment to increase operational stability and ensure that it has sufficient capacity to fulfill the demand of Kyrgyz residents, Trend reports citing the International Energy Agency.

Kyrgyzstan's high reliance on hydropower exposes risks of electricity shortages during periods of water scarcity, which are associated with growing fragility of Kyrgyzstan's electric power system.

This issue is exacerbated by fast rising electricity demand, which is being fueled by unsustainable low regulated electricity prices, which is on the risk of outstripping domestic production capacity of Kyrgyzstan.

According to the agency, to help increase electric power system security in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner, a comprehensive and integrated policy framework is required.
