BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 4. The World Bank (WB) will provide financial assistance for regional development in Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports referring to the press service of Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament of Kyrgyzstan).

The WB will allocate $50 million for the development of the Batken region in Kyrgyzstan as part of the Regional Economic Development project's implementation.

As reported, WB's Vice President for Europe and Central Asia, Anna Bjerde during the meeting with Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security and Migration of the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) Chingiz Aidarbekov expressed regret over the current situation in the Batken region.

Bjerde outlined the need to resolve border issues with Tajikistan exclusively in peaceful way.

Earlier, in September it was announced that the WB as part of the planned 5-year program, will finance projects across Kyrgyzstan for $600 million to improve the lives of the population, and these funds will be provided in the form of an interest-free loan for a period of 50 years.

To date, with World Bank financing, 25 projects worth $800 million are being implemented throughout Kyrgyzstan.
