BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 24. Kyrgyzstan’s external debt to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) amounted to $7 million in 2022, Trend reports with reference to Kyrgyz media.

According to the information, Kyrgyz external debt to the AIIB rose by 55.7 times or by $7.1 million last year, from $130,000 in January 2022.

While Kyrgyzstan’s obligation to the AIIB increased significantly, the bank holds only 0.2 percent of the total Kyrgyz debt.

According to Eurasian Economic Commission, Kyrgyzstan’s external debt amounted to $9.2 billion as of October 2022, which is an increase of 4 percent or $351.1 million from the same month of 2021.

The country's external debt includes the debt of government bodies, the National Bank, commercial banks of the country, other sectors and intercompany lending.

The main part of Kyrgyz external debt (45.1 percent) felt on public administration ($4.1 billion).

Meanwhile, according to the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan, the internal debt of Kyrgyzstan has amounted to $1.038 billion as of February 20, 2023.
