BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 2. President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, suggested the creation of a permanent platform for interaction between the European Union (EU) and Central Asia, which will operate with the participation of the heads of transport structures, Trend reports.

The statement was made during the second meeting of the Heads of Central Asian countries and the President of the European Council Charles Michel in Kyrgyzstan's Cholpon-Ata city.

“Central Asia, due to its strategic geographical location, has a great potential for the revival of the Great Silk Road. It will allow the region to become a transport hub connecting Europe and Asia, which will be beneficial for both continents”, the president said.

According to him, to practically implement the initiative on sustainable transportation links, the government leaders of Central Asia and the Vice-President of the European Commission reached a mutual understanding at the Almaty Forum (on May 16) regarding the importance of coordinating a roadmap to attract investments in the development of transportation infrastructure. This coordination will actively involve the financial potential of both European public and private partners.

“To enhance the effectiveness of this collaboration, I propose the establishment of a permanent platform for interaction in the European Union - Central Asia format, involving the transport authorities of these countries”, Sadyr Japarov said.
