BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 25. Kyrgyzstan's production of brown coal (lignite) reached 1.104 million tons from January through May 2023, marking an 11.8 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2022 when 988,000 tons were produced, Trend repots.
According to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, in May 2023, there was a rise of 17.4 percent in brown coal production, with 150,400 tons extracted, compared to 128,200 tons in May 2022.
Conversely, Kyrgyzstan witnessed an 8 percent decline in the production of bituminous coal from January through May 2023. It decreased from 194,500 tons to 178,800 tons, year-on-year.
However, bituminous coal production increased 48.5 percent in May 2023, compared to the same month of 2022 – from 30,600 tons up to 45,400 tons.
Overall, Kyrgyzstan experienced a 6.6-percent year-on-year growth in the combined production of brown and bituminous coal during the period from January to May 2023.
Kyrgyzstan produced a total of 3.6 million tons of brown and bituminous coal in 2022, which is 20 percent more than in 2021.
