Volume of Kyrgyzstan's petroleum coke and bitumen imports drops, value rises

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 23. A total of 28,972 tons of petroleum coke and bitumen were imported by Kyrgyzstan from January through August 2023, Trend reports.

Data from the country’s National Statistical Committee indicates that this amount was significantly lower, down by 65.2 percent, compared to the same period in 2022 (83,439 tons).

Even though the volume of these imports decreased, the overall value increased by 2.3 times. The value of petroleum coke and bitumen imports reached $19.210 million from January through August 2023, compared to $8.161 million during the same period in the previous year.

In August 2023, Kyrgyzstan imported 4,922 tons of petroleum coke and bitumen at a cost of $1.538 million.

During the first eight months of the current year, Kyrgyzstan imported petroleum coke and bitumen from two countries: Russia and Kazakhstan. Imports of these products from Russia amounted to 26,157 tons, costing $6.837 million. From Kazakhstan, the country imported 2,814 tons with a value of $12.372 million.

Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover amounted to $8.153 billion from January through July 2023, which is an increase of 32.3 percent compared to the same months in 2022.

Exports amounted to $1.602 billion, increasing by 45.6 percent compared to the corresponding months of 2022. Imports rose by 29.4 percent year-on-year, totaling $6.551 billion.
