Kyrgyzstan's imports of bananas from Ecuador decline

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, November 29. Kyrgyzstan imported 17,035 tons of bananas from Ecuador from January through September 2023, which is an 11-percent decrease compared to the same period in 2022 (19,239 tons), Trend reports.

According to data from Kyrgyzstan's State Statistical Committee, the value of these imports totaled $10.251 million, representing an 8 percent increase over the same period in 2022 ($9.490 million).

Despite Ecuador remaining Kyrgyzstan's principal banana supplier during these reporting months, Kyrgyzstan also imported bananas from Russia (1,752 tons), Kazakhstan (582 tons), and Turkey (52 tons).

Overall, Kyrgyzstan imported 19,423 tons of bananas from January to September 2023, a 15 percent decrease over the same period in 2022. The value of these imports fell by 3 percent year over year, totaling $12.758 million.

Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover totaled $10.790 billion from January to September 2023, a 26.2 percent rise over the same period in 2022.

Exports amounted to $2.108 billion, increasing 49.6 percent compared to the first nine months of 2022. Imports rose by 21.6 percent compared to the same period in 2022, reaching $8.681 billion.
