Kyrgyzstan increases black coal imports

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, December 4. Kyrgyzstan imported 417,712 tons of black coal from January through September 2023, which is a 16-percent increase compared to the same period in 2022 (358,165 tons), Trend reports.

According to data from Kyrgyzstan's National Statistical Committee, the value of these imports totaled $17.072 million, a 5 percent reduction year on year ($17.853 million from January to September).

The majority of the black coal, 417,700 tons worth $17.071 million, was imported from Kazakhstan. In addition, a smaller quantity of 11 tons worth $600 was imported from Russia.

Kyrgyzstan produced 488,700 tons of black coal from January to September 2023, a 20.2 percent increase over the same period in 2022 (406,500 tons). Kyrgyzstan produced 112,200 tons of black coal in September 2023, a 72.5 percent increase over September 2022, when production was only 65 tons.

The country's foreign trade turnover totaled $10.790 billion from January through September 2023, which is a 26.2 percent rise over the same period in 2022.
