Kyrgyzstan's demand for black coal surges

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, February 26. Kyrgyzstan imported 1.123 million tons of black coal in 2023, which is an increase of 2.4 times compared to the 459,370 tons imported in 2022, Trend reports.

Data from Kyrgyzstan’s State Statistical Committee reveals that the total value of these imports amounted to $48.152 million, a surge of 2.1 times year-on-year, up from $21.907 million in 2022.

Last year, the majority of black coal imports into Kyrgyzstan originated from Kazakhstan, with only 11 tons valued at $600 coming from Russia. The volume of black coal imported from Kazakhstan saw a 2.4-fold increase compared to 2022, while the value rose by 2.2 times.

At the same time, Kyrgyzstan exported 1.262 million tons of black coal in 2023, which is 67.6 percent more than in 2022 (753,101 tons).

Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover reached $15.660 billion in 2023, which is a 29.9 percent increase compared to 2022 ($12.057 billion). The country's exports totaled $3.308 billion, rising by 46.8 percent year-on-year ($2.254 billion in 2022). Imports to Kyrgyzstan amounted to $12.352 billion, which is 26 percent higher than $9.803 billion in 2022.
