BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, March 6. The cargo transportation by railway transport in Kyrgyzstan totaled 749,900 tons in January 2024, which is an 11.8 percent increase compared to January 2023 (670,700 tons), Trend reports.
Data from Kyrgyzstan’s State Statistical Committee further indicates that the volume of cargo turnover via railway transport amounted to 91.6 million ton-kilometers, which is an 8.1-percent increase compared to January 2023 (84.7 million ton-kilometers).
Overall, cargo transportation in Kyrgyzstan reached 4.022 million tons in January 2024, increasing by 4.3 percent or 164,300 tons, compared to the same month last year. Road transport dominated the transportation sector, carrying 3.213 million tons of goods, followed by railway transport. Transportation via pipelines accounted for 57,800 tons, while air transportation handled 500 tons.
Over 74 percent of cargo transportation in Kyrgyzstan was managed by individual entrepreneurs. Growth in cargo transportation volumes was evident across all transportation modes and regions of the country, except for the Talas region. Notably, the capital city of Bishkek recorded the highest volume of cargo transportation, totaling 1.268 million tons.
In summary, the total cargo turnover for all transportation modes in Kyrgyzstan in January 2024 reached 296.4 million ton-kilometers, marking an 18.8 percent increase compared to January 2023.
