Kyrgyzstan pinpoints key products facing export decline

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 22. The State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan has revealed the main types of goods whose exports decreased from January through March 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, Trend reports.

According to the statistical data, there was a reduction in the export of milk and dairy products by 1.8 times and bread and bakery products by 1.7 times. Additionally, the export of clothing and accessories decreased by 1.7 times, ores and concentrates of precious metals by 1.6 times, plastics and plastic products by 1.5 times, cement by 1.5 times, and copper scrap and waste by 1.5 times.

Moreover, exports of electrical machinery and equipment decreased by 21 percent, vegetables and root crops by 15.1 percent, ferrous metals by 14.2 percent, coal by 9.8 percent, and equipment and mechanical devices by 6.2 percent.

Specifically, among exports to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries, there was a decrease in unglazed ceramic tiles by 2.3 times, fresh and frozen fish by 1.6 times, ores and concentrates of precious metals by 20.8 percent, bread and bakery products by 20.1 percent, milk and dairy products by 15.8 percent, electrical machinery and equipment by 12.3 percent, knitwear by 9.8 percent, and fruits and nuts by 11.1 percent.

Kyrgyzstan's exports amounted to $510.9 million in the first quarter of 2024, increasing by 12.8 percent compared to January through March 2023 ($452.920 million).

In the structure of trade turnover, exports accounted for 13.7 percent, while imports accounted for 86.3 percent. Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover amounted to $3.723 billion from January through March 2024, which is 29.8 percent more than in the corresponding months of 2023 ($2.868 billion).
